Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a fantasy novel written by author J.K. Rowling (she-who-must-not-be-named). The first novel in the adored series Harry Potter, the beginning of Harry Potter’s journey to defeat the dark lord Voldemort. The book was published on 26 June 1997 by Bloomsbury- a British worldwide publishing house of fiction & non-fiction in the United Kingdom. In the following year, the book was published in the United States by Scholastic Corporation-an American multinational publishing, education, and media company. It won lots of British book awards such as British Book Awards 1997 Children’s Book of the Year. In August 1999, it reached the top of the New York Times list for best-selling fiction and stay there most of 1999 and 2000. Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone was translated into about 80 different languages and was made into a film of the same name. As of 2022, this amazing novel has been sold globally about 120 million copies, making it the 3rd best-selling novel of all time.
The story follows an 11-year-old boy named Harry Potter who lives with his uncle Vernon Dursley in number 4 Privet Drive London. His uncle’s family including Vernon, his wife Petunia Dursley, and their son Dudley who treat him very poorly, ordering him to do chores, locking him in the cupboard under the stairs, and not allowing him to eat when he displeased them. On his birthday he receives a letter of acceptance from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His uncle was furious and forbade Harry to go. Later a half-giant named Hagrid knocked down the door and revealed Harry to be a wizard, he helped Harry get ready for his first year at Hogwarts. Throughout the book, Harry made friends that stick alongside and helped him in the whole series like Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (without them Harry would most likely be dead), together they found out the Sorcerer’s Stone is the reason why Voldemort is at Hogwarts. Harry is facing another comeback from Voldemort, who killed his parents when he was just 15 months old, Voldemort also tried to kill Harry but failed miserably. (Voldemort just keeps getting more pathetic in every book)was a blood-red stone made by Nicolas Flamel it create Elixir of Life and which extended the drinker’s lifespan Other important characters: Ron Weasley – Harry’s best friend, very loyal, funny some drawbacks such as getting jealous a lot, ginger; Hermione Granger – Also Harry’s best friend, the perfectionist, extremely clever, logical; Hagrid – Half-giant, Hogwarts keeper of keys and grounds, loyal and friendly; Dumbledore – Hogwarts headmaster, wise and caring some people may say he’s very manipulative and selfish.
Harry Potter is absolutely astonishing in my opinion. I love the details and honestly shocked by J.K.’s imagination. She has created a magical and remarkable universe with great characters and plots. I feel like I am living in it, feeling all of those emotions, that excitement when first arriving at Hogwarts, amazed at the floating candles in the main hall, feeling nervous at the sorting ceremony. It’s fast-paced and engaging as there’re lots of cliffhangers at the end of chapters. There’re so many exciting moments like battling with trolls, finding out about the three-headed dog, facing Voldemort, there’re so many gripping secrets about Harry’s backstory revealed throughout the book.
